The New ETHIC of Public Service

Massimiliano Claps
Research Director, IDC Government Insights

Governments globally are under ever-increasing pressure to bring together citizen-centricity and operational effectiveness. Public sector leaders must make a new ETHIC of public services - Efficient, Trusted, Highly-Responsive, Inclusive, Convenient – the reality. And the COVID emergency has accelerated the transformation. Social distancing measures made digital government services the rule, rather a complement to face-to-face interactions. It catapulted civil servants in the future of remote, flexible working arrangements. And it prompted the government to roll-out urgent public health and economic recovery measures that must be quickly translated into new services.

Government executives, who are committed to innovate public services to make them accessible, understandable, personalized and secure, are embracing the next wave of digital government. They are going above and beyond making e-government services available for citizens. They are transforming front, middle and back office workflows to re-imagine citizen service delivery.

During the course of this presentation, IDC will highlight lessons learned from government globally that are embracing the next normal of ETHIC public services

Industrial Cybersecurity: Enabling Maturity in the OT Environment

Sumit Dhar
Vice President, Cyber Advisory Services, Digital14

The Middle East is witnessing a rapid urban expansion and manufacturing boom. This unprecedented growth is driving investments and innovations in operational technology (OT), spurring IT-OT convergence. With this growth — and connectivity with IT — comes exponentially more risk, particularly from cyberattacks. Unfortunately, the Middle East is the world's top destination for malicious cyberattacks, 7% higher than the global average.

IT-OT convergence delivers multiple benefits, the biggest of which is a reduction in operations cost through shared IT/IoT/IIoT/OT technologies. However, it comes with significant risk. OT environments were once air-gapped, only accessible via internal private networks. But today's OT environments look similar to IT environments, and in most cases, share connectivity with their IT networks, opening and expanding the cyber landscape for OT/ICS environments.

Today, the average dwell time from breach to discovery is 375 days in the Middle East, versus 270 days globally. Many OT-related cybersecurity challenges are similar to IT issues, but the OT environment's direct impact on human lives and safety means they require specific attention.

In this webinar, Digital14, in conjunction with IDC's Government Congress, will discuss the emerging OT trends, IT and OT convergence challenges, and approaches that organizations must implement to safeguard their OT systems from the ever-evolving cybersecurity and threat landscape. Digital14 will explain how it partners with clients, develops an understanding of their environment, and defines a roadmap to minimize the risk of future advanced persistent threats.

A powerful mix of consumer demand, sustainability targets, and a desire to cut costs and secure energy supply is pushing cities and countries to revise their sustainable energy targets. Sustainable energy is an engine for economic growth and improving livability, and the UAE's ‘Energy Strategy 2050’ puts the country at the forefront of this journey. Unlocking this next normal will require the convergence of multiple solution — from energy storage to smart grids), net-zero-energy buildings, the electrification of mobility, and water optimization — and making all of them digital. This panel will discuss how to combine a long-term vision for energy sustainability with practical solutions that can be implemented now to start the transformation.
