Abstract

This IDC study presents the results of IDC's 2019–2020 B2B Digital Commerce MaturityScape Benchmark Survey and should be used as a supplement to IDC MaturityScape: B2B Digital Commerce 1.0 (IDC #US45163919, June 2019). These two studies together provide a comprehensive look at IDC's overall B2B digital commerce maturity model and where B2B organizations in the United States currently sit on that model.

"B2B digital commerce is often considered to be 5–10 years behind B2C and retail, in terms of richness of experience. That assumption held true, with a majority of respondents (65%) falling in the first two stages of B2B digital commerce maturity. These organizations in the early stages have made initial investments in B2B commerce but still have much work to do in terms of aligning talent, systems, and processes," says Jordan Jewell, research manager, Digital Commerce and Enterprise Applications at IDC. "Getting to the most advanced stage of B2B digital commerce will require more investment across the organization, as well as leadership focus on digital commerce as a business model of the future."
