Abstract

This IDC study provides IDC's digital transformation (DX) use case taxonomy for the IT organization as it seeks to support business strategy and success. This taxonomy is organized into eight strategic priorities that serve to define how IT organizations around the globe should structure their digital strategies over the next three to five years. This study also provides a guide to the IT organization's digital transformation journey as it ever-more-closely aligns itself with the needs of the business, enabling individual projects and use cases to align with an enterprise's long-term objectives.

"IT has the potential and ability to act as a force multiplier for the enterprise, exploiting and aligning technology to amplify the enterprise's ability to innovate, respond to customers, optimize supply and production, build market share in direct and complementary markets, and continuously deliver value to achieve business and operational objectives," says Martha Rounds, research director with IDC's IT Executive Programs (IEP). "This study enables business and IT leadership to align business and IT strategies that will propel future success."
