Abstract

This IDC study presents three important practices for organizations that are trying to improve their management of DevOps teams. It is important that as you look at approaches for getting started with DevOps metrics that you ensure your teams do not become preoccupied with metrics such that they lose sight of the customer. Further, to ensure prolonged success, identify metrics you can use to articulate value back to the business.

"Every DevOps team should have metrics that they can use to help them show transparency, understand their current state, demonstrate progress, and drive continuous improvement," said Jim Mercer, research director, DevOps, IDC. "Understanding sound practices for selecting the right metrics and how they can best be used to motivate your teams while showing value back to the business is vitally important for enduring DevOps success and scalability."
