Abstract

This IDC TechBrief identifies the key factors when considering hearables for the enterprise. Wearables have been making slow strides into the enterprise, but a generally warming reception has made them increasingly popular. What began with fitness trackers and smartwatches is about to happen with a new product: hearables.

"In those digital transformation instances in which mobile workers would benefit from receiving bite-sized pieces of audible information while keeping their hands free, hearables would make for a positive addition," says Ramon T. Llamas, research director for IDC's Mobile Devices team. "Wearers could stay in the moment while communicating at the same time, resulting in increased productivity and better customer service. To this end, IT executives must find solutions that enable communication, connect to back-end servers for information, and deliver that information as quickly and seamlessly as possible to users."
