Abstract
This IDC PlanScape provides details about building an analytics center of excellence (COE), which will serve as the catalyst for analytics-driven change in the organization. These centralized teams provide expertise and guidance to analytics efforts throughout the organization, tackle high-priority analytics projects, and create talent development pipelines that encourage the growth of competent analytics professionals. The move toward these centers is widespread and striking in its rapid evolution. IDC's 2018 CIO Sentiment Survey found that 93% of respondents are already leveraging some form of COE to address their analytics challenges and opportunities.
"Analytics centers of excellence serve as the nucleus of an organization's data transformation efforts," says Mike Chapple, adjunct analyst with IDC's IT Executive Programs (IEP). "The center brings together talented staff organized around the common purpose of unlocking the value hidden in business data. Using a centralized approach helps analytics efforts gain the resources they need and develop traction within existing organizational structures that might be otherwise resistant to change."
