Abstract

This IDC Perspective provides Microsoft information and IDC's view on the retirement date for Microsoft Skype for Business Online, as well as the impending migration of those users to the next-gen Microsoft Teams solution.

"Not much surprise to this Skype for Business Online retirement announcement, " said Rich Costello, senior research analyst, IDC's Unified Communications/Enterprise Communications Infrastructure. "Microsoft has been hinting at it for a while now and has been focusing hard on migrating its Skype for Business customers to its newer cloud-based architecture and communications client. But that still doesn't lessen the burden for Skype for Business Online customers that, if they haven't already, need to begin thinking about Teams, deploying Teams in parallel with Skype for Business, and/or actually migrating users to Teams."
