Abstract

This IDC Tech Buyer Presentation describes 12 critical drivers — important external forces — that are driving change in the global business ecosystem and that will shape enterprise IT and business strategies for the next 12–24 months. IDC uses the paradigm PESTEL+B — political, economic, social, technological, environmental, legal, and business — to describe the scope of forces included in our annual driver review. The 2020 drivers touch on innovation, platforms, data, digital trust, geopolitical risk, customer expectations, and more.

"With the accelerating pace of change in the global business ecosystem, business and technology leaders need to be prepared for the disruption and opportunities as they shape their business and technology plans," says Suya Xiong, research manager in IDC's IT Executive Program. "IDC's drivers provide a context for the most important forces of change that have the potential to dramatically alter the global business ecosystem for the next 12–24 months and beyond."
