Abstract

This IDC Tech Buyer Presentation highlights this year's IDC's CIO Sentiment Survey. This presentation highlights critical challenges that CIOs are facing when developing and executing their digital strategies. This data-driven presentation highlights the importance of the CIO and IT leadership in enacting effective digital transformation. As this year's CIO Sentiment Survey data consistently demonstrates, digital strategy requires a concerted effort by leadership, and especially by CIOs, to unite and integrate technology and business organizations toward business transformation. The presentation highlights a RACI matrix that shows how successful organizations distribute responsibilities. However, data also shows that even with skilled leadership, organizations continue to face challenges related to developing and implementing successful digital strategy.

"Enterprises expect CIOs to provide leadership of critical technology-driven capabilities including innovation, intelligence, and data. However, their responsibility must be exercised in cooperation with LOBs executives, who remain the primary accountable individuals," says Serge Findling, research vice president with IDC's IT Executive Programs (IEP). "And despite the need for CIOs' leadership into the future, traditional business expectations — security, performance, efficiency, and cost savings — remain as table stakes for IT organizations."
