This IDC Perspective explores ways to uncover a potent source of innovation that lies closer to home: existing talent and new ideas that are hidden in the IT organization. This document is designed to help CIOs harvest latent and hidden innovation talent and ideas that can advance the capabilities of the IT organization. It explains why IT workers are a critical source of innovation and discusses six ways in which CIOs can tap innovation that otherwise lays dormant.
IT workers can be a potent source of innovation as they have deep knowledge of their work and how IT operates, solid technology skills and, possibly most important, they know where and how IT processes and services can be improved. With the curiosity and problem-solving acumen that many IT workers possess, most CIOs are sitting on a potential wellspring of innovation.
