Abstract

This IDC Perspective calls attention to unintended obstacles to implement product management that are frequently found in IT organizations. It is important for IT organizations to center on customer experience and continually maximize the value of services and solutions throughout the various life-cycle stages. IT executives must demonstrate leadership and work directly with their business customers to address the obstacles to create a product-driven IT organization and create a proactive approach to support the future enterprise.

"Many IT executives are unaware of the obstacles to product management that are caused by their traditional structures and processes," says Suya Xiong, research manager with IDC's IT Executive Program. "IT organizations need to implement organizational change that assesses IT culture, aligns leadership, maps funding strategy, develops meaningful measurement, and enables IT personnel growth that will over time translate into an IT product management capability culture."
