Abstract

This IDC Perspective assesses the preparedness of companies relative to the complexity of modern work during global crisis like COVID-19.

The COVID-19 global pandemic has abruptly forced business of all sizes to face the complexity of modern work. Enterprises that have prepared their business, IT, leadership, and organization through the process of digital transformation may use this as an opportunity to innovate and transform. Others, lagging in one or more areas, have the opportunity to either jump-start their lagging transformations or drive much-needed changes with urgency while ensuring business continuity.

"Next year will be filled with challenges we can only imagine," said Shannon Kalvar, research manager, IT Service Management and Client Virtualization. "The work we have done so far to adapt to a complex world is just the beginning of the journey."

"Companies must adopt a holistic organizational and technological approach to effectively transform and ultimately prevail in challenging times," said Amy Loomis, research director, Future of Work.
