Abstract

This IDC Perspective provides a step-by-step change management and communications guide for CIOs planning for recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Road maps that were aligned at the start of 2020 are unlikely to carry us into the latter half of the year. Recommended strategies for recovery planning leverage time- and experience-tested strategies for change management and communications, Past crises, like 9/11 and the 2008 financial crisis, have challenged all of us to deliver in the face of uncertainty and disruption, but no events in our working lives have demanded such a universal crisis response.

"Traditional crisis management has developed a business bias toward IT with triggers based on cyber or system availability," says Alizabeth Calder, adjunct analyst, IDC's IT Executive Programs (IEP). "The table has turned, and in this situation, we are uniquely positioned to be the solver, rather than the source, of problems. The onus is on us in IT to leverage that by bringing our absolute best capabilities and commitment to the challenges of recovery."
