Abstract
This IDC Perspective summarizes the problems that businesses face in keeping their employees healthy and safe from infectious diseases. The COVID-19 pandemic has focused attention on the dangers of microorganisms that can spread and cause debilitating illnesses throughout the working population. The role of touchscreen-enabled devices such as smartphones in harboring and spreading pathogens has been the focus of scientific research for over a decade.
"Given the crippling effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, businesses will need to make sure that their devices are not the source of dangerous bacteria and viruses," said Will Stofega, program director for IDC's Mobile Device Technology and Trends.
