Abstract

This IDC Perspective examines key steps that organizations need to take to become cloud-native enterprises or enterprises for whom cloud-native development is the dominant modality for producing software. As more and more organizations transition to becoming producers of software as opposed to consumers, the transition of organizations to cloud-native enterprises achieves intensified importance.

"Organizations that are transitioning to cloud-native development need to implement a platform as a service, cultivate developer familiarity with cloud-native technologies, deepen their adoption of DevOps, and create a developer-centric culture within their organization," said Arnal Dayaratna, research director, Software Development at IDC. "This transition requires a programmatic initiative to increase development-related automation and upskill developers. Organizations that can navigate this transition to a cloud-native enterprise will be better prepared to produce custom software that responds to their needs for digital solutions that solve immediate and long-term strategic problems."
