Abstract

This IDC study examines the technologies that are essential for safely reopening and managing office spaces during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, recognizing that many have the potential to evolve in the years to come. It provides a visual representation of the process of technology adoption, dividing technologies into three major categories based on their impact on the organization and assessing technology relative to adoption levels within their respective categories. The document examines individual technology categories and provides additional insights about the speed of adoption, technology potential for success (risk), and level of market buzz so end users may make their own decisions about investment.

"Health and safety concerns paired with economic challenges are providing an unexpected acceleration for digital transformation initiatives that are redefining the physical workspace," said Amy Loomis, research director, Future of Work at IDC. "The safe return to the office is an opportunity for organizations to reimagine where, when, and how physical and digital elements align to drive work productivity, innovation, and resilience."
