Abstract

This IDC study provides a path for CIOs to automate the collection of their company's business, information, application, and technology data. This allows for and enables analysis and automation of portfolio optimization, outcome reporting, capability-based planning, new ecosystem models, and more. In the post-pandemic recovery era, a deliberate, fact- and outcome-based, agile, and flexible refocusing and replanning of IT activities should be among the highest priorities of the CIO. This study creates a step-by-step plan for addressing this priority.

"CIOs today need to adjust their IT estates to refocus on new realities while simultaneously adjusting plans and priorities for the next growth phase," says Mike Rosen, adjunct research advisor, IT Executive Programs at IDC. "The automated collection of architectural data is the critical first step toward fact-based decisions that balance immediate concerns with future requirements."
