Abstract

This IDC Perspective examines the value of Direct Routing to a business' unified communications and collaboration (UC&C) goals, helping IT buyers incorporate Direct Routing for Teams into their buying decision. Direct Routing for Teams is an option that is increasingly being made available by UCaaS service providers, and optimal UC&C outcomes are constrained if IT buyers don't understand the differences in how UCaaS service providers approach their Direct Routing solution.

"The choice to use Direct Routing for Teams is first and foremost a way to leverage on-premises PBX with your preferred UCaaS service provider voice plan and Microsoft Teams investments in UC&C implementations. In this way, Direct Routing is the bridge between these solutions, enabling cloud voice through your preferred UCaaS service provider to be used by employees in Teams," says Denise Lund, research director, Telecom and Unified Communications at IDC. "Where IT buyers risk leaving UC&C outcomes on the table is by not going into the cloud voice buying decision understanding that there are a variety of other benefits that Direct Routing for Teams can drive, and these are different depending on where the UCaaS service provider is at in its Direct Routing for Teams road map."
