Abstract

This IDC study reinforces the aspects of culture that must surround agile practices. The Agile Manifesto is brief and the message of people over process is reinforced in many ways. The most popular development framework that builds on the values and principles of agile is the Scrum Framework. The Scrum Guide lists the scrum values of Commitment, Focus, Openness, Respect, and Courage, quite possibly the only development methodology that stresses the importance of the "humans in the process," both the customers of IT and the IT team itself.

According to Cora Carmody, adjunct researcher within IDC's IT Executive Advisory Group, "The most successful CIOs have already embraced the cultural tenets of transparency and honest frequent communication with their teams. They 'get' that their assumptions may be wrong and should be continually challenged. They are open to feedback and enhance their teams' culture by modeling the way. These CIOs see the role of culture in agile success."
