Abstract

This IDC Tech Buyer Presentation provides a framework for CIOs and senior IT leaders for sustaining a robust human capital management strategy for the IT organization. This framework discusses the interconnected talent strategies for each stage of the employee life cycle — recruitment, development, advancement, and retention. IT leaders must proactively employ dynamic workforce development tactics across each phase of the employment life cycle to reduce the need to look outside for technical talent with the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed for future business needs.

"Effective human capital management requires a clear definition of the current state of IT's talent pool, an understanding of future business needs, a strategic action plan, and constant monitoring to ensure progress toward goals," says Damon Carter, adjunct analyst with IDC's IT Executive Programs (IEP). This effort will positively impact the overall IT employee experience across the organization, thereby increasing the retention of key technical talent with skill sets for the future.
