This blog lists the top 10 worldwide predictions for Worldwide Education. These technology predictions are meant to help the enterprise with strategic planning within a typical five-year business planning cycle.

Just a couple of weeks ago, the education team learned a valuable lesson: data and opinions can manifest in multiple ways, especially in today’s massively exploding data landscape. The survive-or-die challenges that all global digital organizations face mandates the ability to be effectively aware and making critical decisions leveraging hyper-critical data.

We realized much of the misunderstanding stems from the lack of sufficient skills-maturity in “digital media and information literacy” (as defined in IDC Education’s skills framework- Engaging others effectively in a digital society. The ability to understand, inquire, create, communicate and think critical in digital landscapes, and the competency to effectively access, organize, analyse, evaluate, and create messages in a variety of forms]. To this end we are committed to bring our digital skills framework out to market to engage not just IT professionals, but also non-IT professionals who are increasingly making decisions on IT procurement and use.

As a recognized global advisory and consulting team, we are committed to bring our evidence-and-outcomes-based insights into highlighting the opportunities and red-flags of a rapidly transforming education market. Today, the worldwide digital learning space is no longer a small industry.

In fact, flexible and modular learning has become highly popular over the last decade, brought about by Massive Open Online Courses or MOOCs, be it for K-12 and higher education levels, or for corporate and specialist (e.g., medical) training. From 2020 onward, with the promise of the “new internet” via 5G, cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), internet of things (IoT), 3D printing, and next-generation security technologies, will drive new digital education use cases.

IDC expects to see lifelong learning and development needs becoming extraordinarily commonplace. Key use case developments for the upcoming years around smart digital content will be in interactive video-based learning content, engaging and immersive learning solutions, as well as more modular and micro learning.

Campus administrations will additionally be stretched to deliver service productivity, ensure accountability and digital equity, and enhance experiences related to out-of-classroom learning and campus space transformations while maintaining safe and secured campus operations for all. Therefore, the approach of ‘knowing more’ for enhanced decision-making will be further pursued rather than on a need-to-know or uninformed traditional practices.
