IDC DevOps Conference Scaling DevOps: Optimizing for Innovation at Scale

DIGITAL Event | September 24, 2020

Overview

Due to the current global situation, IDC has taken the decision to make the DevOps Conference on September 24 a Digital Forum. This decision was taken as the safety of our sponsors, delegates and staff is paramount and our community's health should be placed above all else.

DevOps delivers results across Europe, enabling organisations to significantly improve performance while delivering business value. Everyone has heard that software is taking over the world, so the next challenge for every organisation is how to operate more like a software company to deliver digital innovation rapidly. Why? Because more than half of the European economy will be driven by digital products and services in the next three years. As organisations evolve to support future enterprise needs, the role of DevOps also evolves and expands.

To excel, organisations must leverage process, technology, and cultural change. By 2021, 80% of European organisations will adopt DevOps, but only 10% will excel in terms of accelerated performance and delivery cycles. Cultural inertia is a core stumbling block. To enable DevOps to become business-as-usual, organisations must rethink how products/services are funded, governed, and compliant, but also consider tool complexity, culture, organisational goals, and sourcing models. There must be a balance between technology investments such as API management, open source repositories, security integration, and modern app architectures with investments in organisational change, training, and skills development.

Join us on September 24 to discuss:

  • Scaling DevOps: Optimising for Innovation at Scale
  • DevSecOps
  • AIOps
  • Organisational Redesign and Change Management
  • From CI Pipelines to DevOps Assembly Lines
  • Open Development Culture/Unique Cultural Identity
  • Emerging Software Ecosystems

Increasing the Odds on Transformation Through "Open Leadership"

Simon Wright

Director, Open Transformation, Red Hat

Many attempts to transform organisations fail primarily due to resistance to change and the inability of organisations to maintain an appropriate balance between short term tactics and strategic direction.  This presentation explores how the leadership of a company can work to overcome five common failures and guide their teams through change to embrace innovation.

Platinum Keynote: DevSecOps for Digital Innovation

Matthieu Dierick

Solution Architect, EMEA, NGINX

Integrating security into your application lifecycle is not easy. DevOps are used to deploying applications with modern tool sets, and most of the time, the security team can't follow the DevOps guidelines.

Join our session to see how NGINX can be part of the application lifecycle and how we can eliminate mistakes and reduce attacks and downtime with NGINX App Protect.

11:30

Platinum Keynote: Moving Fast - Addressing the Elephant in the DevOps Room - Data

Gary Hallam

Director, Partner Business EMEA, Delphix

Data is often touted as the new oil, but for many enterprises data is a drag on innovation velocity. McKinsey suggested recently that businesses crammed 5 years worth of digital adoption into 8 weeks and that the road to recovery is paved with data. The road to digital transformation is also paved with data. Making data palatable across the enterprise is becoming more challenging as we extend our multi-generational architectures into the cloud, and as enterprises adopt machine learning and AI.

Gary will address how enterprises can transform data availability, rapidly increase innovation cycles and speed time to market.

Tech Talk: Initiating and Scaling Database DevOps

Kendra Little

DevOps Advocate, Redgate

Data is often an Enterprise’s most valuable resource. This makes it both necessary and challenging to bring DevOps into the software development lifecycle for databases. In this session, Redgate will share how to spark and scale significant changes in your development, test, and release processes for databases, no matter the size of your organization or your data stores

12:55

Tech Talk 2 - Don’t be Afraid to Upgrade: Lessons of Speed and Security from High Performance Open Source Development

Mitun Zavery

EMEA Manager, Engineering, Sonatype

For the second year in a row, we’ve joined with Gene Kim to examine how enterprise software development teams utilise open source components and the performance and risk management outcomes they achieve. In this session, we’ll share the practices and outcomes we discovered that differentiate the low performers from the peak performers.

13:10

Tech Talk 3 - DevOps is great, DevSecOps is better - 4 key challenges for a DevSecOps transformation

Dirk Herrmann

Systems Engineering Manager, Palo Alto Networks

Being involved in many customer projects focusing on DevSecOps implementations, Dirk will share some of the lessons learnt and key challenges of a successful DevSecOps transformation: Culture, Complexity, Variety and Security.  Looking at these from both a customer and a vendor perspective.

  • Are You DevOps Complete?

Learn how automating and accelerating data delivery fills a key gap in your DevOps workflows. Too many businesses base their DevOps initiatives on software pipelines that insufficiently address one of the most important elements in the development lifecycle—data. Operations teams might be able to provision a new application environment in three minutes, but the data might not be there for three weeks. This makes automating data delivery the key to implementing a truly complete software development toolchain and, ultimately, realizing the promise of DevOps. In this paper, discover how industry leaders are confronting this data challenge head on, and learn about:

Industry benchmarks for infrastructure and data provisioning speed.

Key bottlenecks in achieving a state of continuous integration and continuous delivery.

How forward-thinking DevOps teams leverage a platform-based approach to delivering data.
