Multicloud 3.0: Ready for Enterprise Workloads

DIGITAL FORUM | Finland | November 25, 2020

We are now entering the next phase of cloud adoption where enterprise applications are moving to the cloud and IT organizations need to handle multilayer applications in complex multicloud operations as well as well as dynamic cloud-native applications on the same platform.

Typical challenges that arise include deciding which workload should be placed in which cloud, what the criteria are for deciding workload placement, how to govern cloud usage and ensure regulatory compliance, how to gain visibility into the performance of cloud services, how to secure enteprise applications and cloud native applications, and how to enable cloud-based innovation from edge to core to cloud and drive the right level of connectivity.

To deal with these challenges succesfully, IT organisations should look not only at the technology evolution and select the right cloud providers, cloud operating model, and target architecture, but also at the development of skills and the cultural change that follow the change in technology platform.

IDC's Multicloud 2020 will review industry trends and provide you with an opportunity to look at the ways companies can move from islands of innovation to cloud-based operating models at scale and drive a cultural evolution to speed up innovation and business transformation.

General Information

November 25, 2020

09:30 - 12:30

Key Topics

Cloud Operational Excellence

Enterprises need to establish a cloud center of excellence to drive standardization of governance and operational processes and evangelize cloud usage across the organization

Application Migration

How to choose the right cloud platform for each business critical application. This could be on-premise, in the cloud, or increasingly, at the edge

Cloud Governance

The governance models of the on-premise era are too rigid for the agile cloud world. Setting a governance model that links business objectives and cloud operations goals is key to sustaining business performance and enabling cloud-based innovation.

Cloud Security and Digital Trust

Ensuring cloud security, regulatory compliance in a world of contradicting international cloud and data privacy laws, as well as building digital trust are key enablers for Multicloud success.

Platform choice

To determine which platform to go deep into customization and lock-in and which platforms to keep as standard as possible is the biggest choice that IT managers need to make in the next 3-5 years.

Management and Automation

The operational complexity of operating a Multicloud environment is high. IT managers need to invest in Multicloud management tools and processes to automate and operate at scale.

Are international data transfers now forbidden? The Schrems II judgement, the CLOUD Act and data localisation

Tobias Bräutigam

Senior Counsel, Head of Data Protection, Bird & Bird

The Court of Justice of the EU struck down the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield regime in Summer 2020. What does that mean for companies? This talk will cover the short and long term outcomes of that case and how can companies and authorities can ensure safe and lawful data transfers in the future. There is a lot of insecurity around the topic, not least because the CLOUD Act in the US also leads to insecurity.

Attorney and docent at Helsinki University Tobias Bräutigam shares his thoughts on the current trends on data transfers, focusing on the aftermath of the Schrems II ruling and the impacts of the CLOUD Act.
