Overview

IDC and DXC Technologies are hosting an executive virtual roundtable aimed at bringing together a select group of Business leaders to discuss and share best practices how to drive Data-Driven Manufacturing in an everchanging technical landscape.

The Manufacturing industry in the Nordic and Benelux regions relies on digital technologies. The industry employs fewer people today than a decade ago, but still generates more value, as productivity has increased significantly – especially due to improved and automated logistics and supply chain management. Today, companies are increasingly taking further steps in the transformation journey to become truly data-driven. This includes transforming the actual production process as the operational technologies are connected with the IT systems, and the delivery model and customer experiences as products are either digitally enhanced or converted to an as-a-Service offering.

The production floor will increasingly be digitised. The machinery will of course still output physical products, but will be connected to IT systems and leverage advanced analytics. Real-time data makes it possible to optimise and automate the production process for example by minimising waste or quickly identifying errors. Furthermore it makes predictive maintenance of the physical assets possible, while digital twins and reprogrammable robots open up opportunities to test and change the actual processes.

The delivery models are also digitally transformed. Individual products or production batches can be traced or equipped with sensors, giving new insights into how the product is used. This can be used for data-driven research and product development, but also for offering improved – possibly proactive services. Furthermore, it allows for digitally enhanced products, for example adding features though software updates, or even converting traditional product sales to an as-a-Service business model.
