This IDC Market Perspective discusses the trends and adoption of mature and nascent non-fibre broadband options for New Zealand's homes and businesses and what that means for broadband network providers and broadband retailers.
"The UFB landscape provides excellent broadband connectivity for most of urban New Zealand," says Monica Collier, associate research director, Telecommunications. "But the urban broadband landscape has competition with mature access technologies such as 4G wireless broadband and HFC, as well as more nascent access technologies including 5G wireless broadband and low Earth orbit satellite broadband from Starlink. While these access technologies provide competition in urban areas for Chorus and the LFCs, they are welcome complementary technologies in rural areas to provide rural and remote users with more broadband options."
