Abstract

This IDC Survey examines data about the impact of GenAI on digital infrastructure investment and operations plans collected by two August 2023 IDC surveys. Specifically, this document analyzes data from 1,187 participants in IDC's August 2023 Global GenAI Awareness, Readiness, and Commitment (ARC) Survey and 883 global participants in IDC's August 2023 Future Enterprise Resiliency and Spending Survey, Wave 7.

Deploying infrastructure to support new or existing GenAI initiatives is one of the top forces expected to drive significant digital infrastructure change over the next 18 months, with decision makers estimating that 52% of GenAI investments will go to infrastructure during this time frame.

"As organizations worldwide build out their GenAI digital infrastructure strategies, the majority expect that hybrid cloud and multicloud strategies will be fundamental building blocks to enable organizations to best match workload and data logistics requirements with costs, performance, and interconnection priorities," explains Mary Johnston Turner, IDC's research vice president of Future of Digital Infrastructure Agenda. "Investments in digital infrastructure cyber-resiliency, data logistics, network connectivity, operations, and automation will all be on the table in 2024."
