Abstract

This IDC Survey examines worldwide IT and LOB buyer sentiment related to purchasing digital infrastructure via public cloud provider marketplaces. This IDC Survey document is based on responses from 888 decision makers in North America, Asia/Pacific, and Europe who were polled in March/April 2023. The research shows that digital infrastructure is one of the most frequently purchased marketplace categories. It also shows that many marketplace purchase decisions are driven by LOB decision makers who have significant flexibility to make their own decisions, as long as they choose from an approved list of providers.

The data in this document is part of a much larger data set developed by IDC's Global Technology Thought Leadership Group, which conducts a monthly survey (IDC's Future Enterprise Resiliency and Spending Survey) to understand how IT and business leaders in enterprises around the world are assessing risks and addressing cost management for their growing portfolio of technology resources. This March/April 2023 data represents Wave 3 of the 2023 survey cycle, when IDC asked IT decision makers to indicate how concerns about inflation, recession, skills shortages, and other developments affected 2023 budget decisions. We also asked about their plans related to several other topics including use of cloud marketplaces. Additional documents will be published across a range of IDC research programs reporting on other dimensions of Wave 3 results.
