Abstract
This IDC study provides historical data (2018–2022) and forecast data (2023–2027) for the worldwide server market. The forecast and historical data illustrates IT buyer consumption of server hardware segmented by product, CPU type, server class, socket capability, primary operating system, and major geographical region. For each of these categories, IDC has estimated value (end-user spending) and server units shipped.
"Server market growth was strong in 2022 and is now expected to flatten out in 2023 as the market absorbs its macroeconomic reality and backlogs have been brought down closer to historical levels," said Kuba Stolarski, research vice president for IDC's Compute and Storage Infrastructure Practice. "Once the market comes through the storm, which should happen sometime in 2024, growth should return with a vengeance, as the domains of cloud, edge, analytics, and AI drive the market further and faster down the digital transformation highway."
