Abstract
This IDC study provides historical data (2018–2022) and forecast data (2023–2027) for the worldwide server market. 2023 data includes historical data for the first half of the year. The forecast and historical data illustrate IT buyer consumption of server hardware segmented by product, CPU type, server class, socket capability, primary operating system, and major geographical region. For each of these categories, IDC has estimated value (end-user spending) and server units shipped.
"After a strong 2022, the roller coaster ride of the 2020s infrastructure markets continued in the first half of 2023 with reappropriation of some budgets for accelerated server purchases," said Kuba Stolarski, research vice president for IDC's Compute and Service Provider Research Practice. "The GPU shopping spree should slow down somewhat during 2024, as non-accelerated needs return to favor among the large cloud builders. However, in the long term, AI investments are headed for a new normal, surpassing pre-ChatGPT expectations for the forecast period."
