Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight discusses organizations' plans to use sovereign cloud solutions in the next two years. It highlights data from IDC's Future Enterprise Resiliency and Spending (FERS) Survey in January 2023.

Those who took part in IDC's FERS Survey were mainly in an IT, data, cybersecurity, telecommunications, or networking role or in a line of business within their organization (such as marketing, sales, and human resources). Respondents were from 26 countries worldwide and from various industry sectors and companies with more than 500 employees (more than 1,000 for U.S.-based respondents).

The results show that most organizations are either already using sovereign cloud solutions or are planning to do so by 2025. Latin America has the greatest number of organizations currently using such solutions, while those in Western Europe closely followed by Asia/Pacific come in on top when it comes to planned usage.

Geopolitical and economic turmoil that was exacerbated last year resulted in most organizations across the globe showing greater interest in sovereign solutions, but inflationary pressures are now having a greater impact here, particularly in terms of IT budgets. However, spending on some key tenets of digital sovereignty (such as compliance and security) is immune to budgetary cutbacks, according to most respondents.
