"During 2022, negative market conditions weighed down revenue performance in services. While many customers increased their overall spend in local currency terms, currency fluctuations led to a year-on-year reduction of top-line revenues in U.S. dollars. Customers are also making use of a greater spread of specialist suppliers, particularly in cloud-related services, security, data/analytics, and other specialist areas, which saw individual suppliers often receiving a smaller slice of an otherwise growing pie. There is a strong focus among large enterprises on internal transformation, application modernization, and operational excellence; this is expected to grow services revenue in the coming years. Suppliers should invest in subject-matter expertise and vertical specialization to win a greater share of these large transformation deals." — Jonathan Tullett, associate research director, IT services, Sub-Saharan Africa, IDC
