Abstract

This IDC Survey summarizes selected results from IDC's Future of Digital Infrastructure 2022 Global Sentiment Survey conducted in June 2022. The data showcased in this document analyzes data based on the role of the decision maker. Specifically, this analysis considers the perspectives held by the following five roles:

  • Overall digital infrastructure decision makers who tend to hold titles at the VP or C-level
  • IT/cloud ops decision makers who tend to hold titles at the VP or director level
  • DevOps and software development roles with titles primarily at the director or architect level
  • DataOps roles with titles primarily at the director or architect level
  • Line-of-business roles with titles primarily at the director level

Overall, most roles agree on the importance of digital infrastructure — enabling the achievement of top priority digital business goals. A deeper dive into selected survey questions shows some role-based variations, particularly with regard to top priority KPIs.

This IDC Survey examines responses from 1,058 digital infrastructure decision makers from around the world. This document is one of a series analyzing the survey data from a number of different perspectives. Other previously published documents based on this data analyzed global and regional digital infrastructure priorities and trends across different industries.

"Although digital infrastructure decision makers generally align around top strategic drivers and operational priorities, each role has some unique considerations that shape their perceptions about digital infrastructure investments," explains Mary Johnston Turner, research vice president, Future of Digital Infrastructure — Agenda at IDC. "When debating digital infrastructure business case justifications, vendors, partners, and internal IT project advocates should consider the specific priorities associated with each decision maker's role in order to provide relevant context for the overall investment decision."
