Abstract

This IDC Survey focuses on the section of the March 2023 worldwide automation and process improvement survey associated with line-of-business (LOB) automation developer programs. IDC uses the term LOB developer to refer to business users who work at least part time in a developer role. This survey used the equivalent term "citizen developer" or "citizen automation" because the terms are more well known.

The primary objectives of this research are as follows:

  • Tracking progress on these programs and their impact across the workforce
  • Identifying the features offered and the tools and platforms used to support business users in their automation and process improvement efforts
  • Examining rewards and incentives and how those may or may not increase involvement and program success
  • Identifying key challenges that may impede success
