IDC Survey Spotlight: Industrial Instrumentation and Connectivity
Abstract
This IDC Survey Spotlight examines the data that reveals the current state of instrumentation and connectivity in industrial operations. Arising from industrial internet of things (IIoT) capabilities, industrial enterprises have spent several years adding new sensors and instrumentation to legacy assets in operations and connecting existing data and networks more broadly. Now, according to IDC data, these digitization projects are shifting focus and the race to connect everything has slowed. "There has been a false assumption made that everything will be connected due to the IIoT," says Jonathan Lang, research director at IDC. "But our data shows that this is not a likely outcome because there is a limit to the practicality and value offered by this connectedness."
