Abstract

This IDC Survey summarizes selected results from IDC's Future of Digital Infrastructure Worldwide Sentiment Survey, conducted in May and June 2023. Data from this survey is published in multiple documents. This document provides insights as to the current state of hybrid and multicloud digital infrastructure architectures, including the continued shift of workloads to public cloud infrastructure services. This document also highlights the impact that top priority workloads such as distributed edge and campus/applications, work from home/hybrid work, and AI/big data/ML applications are having on the continued growth in demand for interconnected hybrid and multicloud infrastructure environments and unified management control plans.

The 876 survey participants represent a global mix of industries and geographies. They are senior IT and line-of-business decision makers tasked with shaping strategic technology, architecture, operating model, and vendor choices for their organizations' compute, storage, and networking resources. Data on other dimensions of the survey will be discussed in forthcoming documents.

"Globally, the majority of organizations expect to rely on interconnected, hybrid, and multicloud strategies for digital infrastructure in the coming years," explains Mary Johnston Turner, research vice president, Future of Digital Infrastructure — Agenda at IDC. "Workload deployment decisions continue to be fine-tuned to the needs of specific workloads and use cases. Cybersecurity considerations, cost, speed of deployment, and infrastructure scalability, all factor into workload deployment decisions."
