Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight answers the following question: How are organizations offsetting labor shortages using automation technologies?

In today's fast-paced and data-driven business world, automation is transforming the way companies innovate, operate, and work. As new technologies emerge at an ever-accelerating pace, organizations must put in place ways in which they can offset skills and labor shortages using automation technologies (e.g., task and workflow automation, RPA, and AI/ML including GenAI).

IDC predicts that by 2027, 40% of current job roles will be redefined or eliminated across G2000 organizations, accelerated by GenAI adoption. Job roles are already evolving; this means equipping all employees (including front line) with the necessary digital skills to create pathways for career transitions. By teaching employees to work symbiotically with intelligent systems, we can move to embrace automation as more of a partner than a threat.
