Abstract

This IDC study discusses the forecast for the worldwide supply chain management applications market. Post-pandemic, this market is expected to see good growth through 2027 as organizations look to better optimize their supply chain operations for efficiency in the short term while ensuring they are resilient to market disruptions in the longer term. Although the specter of recession continues to linger, it is viewed as much less likely at this point in 2023 than it was at this same time last year. IDC continues to see no reason to temper the forecast, although of course there is always that possibility as we move materially into 2024. Indeed, IDC surveys suggest that while supply chain executives are mindful of operational efficiency in the short term, they recognize the importance of the supply chain as both supporting current business requirements and as an enabler of new business models. Growth in the supply chain management applications market will be driven by both this short-term and long-term focus.

"In today's disruptive environment, the supply chain is critical for businesses to meet their performance targets. Without the use of modern tools, supply chains simply cannot compete at the levels necessary for competitive differentiation. SCM investments are both a competitive necessity and key to driving a differentiating edge over peers," says Simon Ellis, group VP, Manufacturing Insights and Worldwide Supply Chain Strategies, IDC.
