Abstract

This IDC Pivot Table includes yearly data from 2005 to 2028. This is a look at all the systems, or end products, that contain Wi-Fi. The data includes static tables providing top-level shipments, installed base, and cumulative shipments of Wi-Fi-enabled systems.

Pivot tables arranged in multiple ways (same pivot data) are made up of:

  • System/product categorization: 11 "Level 1" market categorizations, over 60 "Level 2" categorizations, about 100 "Level 3" categorizations, and about 250 "Level 4" categorizations
  • Wi-Fi protocol segmentation: Legacy Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi 4, Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 7, Wi-Fi 8, and other (WiGig, WAVE, HaLow, others)
  • IEEE protocol segmentation: 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n single band (Wi-Fi 4), 802.11n dual band (Wi-Fi 4), 802.11n/ac (Wi-Fi 5), 802.11n/ac/ad (Wi-Fi 5), 802.11ax without 6 GHz (Wi-Fi 6), 802.11ax with 6 GHz (Wi-Fi 6E), 802.11ax/ay (Wi-Fi 6), 802.11be (Wi-Fi 7), 802.11be/ay (Wi-Fi 7), 802.11bn (Wi-Fi 8) 802.11ad (WiGig), 802.11ay (WiGig), 802.11ah (HaLow), and 802.11p (WAVE)
  • System landscape: Primary client, IoT/endpoint, edge infrastructure — light, edge infrastructure — heavy, network infrastructure, and storage mechanism
