Abstract
This IDC Perspective discusses the steps for moving employees back to the office, which is and will be complex organizational change initiative, not simply a senior management directive to return to the physical workplace. Because the COVID-19 pandemic and work-from-home environment has lasted for such a long period of time, new IT processes, work-from-home technologies, work habits, attitudes about working from home, and other related factors have become cemented in the organizational culture and in the minds of the employees. This study provides an 11-step change management process to help facilitate the back-to-the-office migration.
"As the global effects of COVID-19 weaken, IT leaders will have the dual responsibility of moving many or all of their own staff back into the office while simultaneously supporting the migration of non-IT staff back into the workplace," notes Eric Bloom, adjunct analyst with IDC's IT Executive Programs (IEP). "This reverse journey from home to office brings with it more complex challenges and opportunities than its office-to-home predecessor."
