Peter Rutten is a Research Manager, Server Solutions with IDC’s Servers and Compute Platforms Group. In this role, Mr. Rutten focuses on the high-end server market and the accelerated server market. His research on the high-end server market includes RISC-based systems, mainframes, and mission-critical x86 platforms and their operating environments (Linux, Unix, z/OS). His research on the accelerated server market includes servers with GPUs, FPGAs, ASICs, many core processors and other accelerators that are used for AI or for highly demanding workloads. Furthermore, Mr. Rutten covers infrastructure for select workloads such as AI and SAP HANA.

BACKGROUND

Previously, Mr. Rutten was a Senior Market & Business Analyst at innovation consulting firm GEN3 Partners, where he provided innovation strategies to Fortune 1000 companies. Mr. Rutten has also worked as a market and business strategist for several Silicon Valley tech start-ups and he was an early developer of ebook business models at Cybergold, now MyPoints. He was a co-founder of Electric Word magazine which became WIRED magazine, and served as the president and publisher of WIRED Books. Mr. Rutten has written several technology-related books for Random House and HarperCollins and he co-authored Where We Stand, a comparative study of economies in the developed world, published by Bantam Books.
