Abstract

This IDC presentation briefly analyzes the egovernment performance of a worldwide sample set of countries against their ICT spend over the years.

It focuses exclusively on the 100 countries covered by the World Intellectual Property Organization's Global Innovation Index 2022 and categorizes them into three different buckets to analyze:

  • Any correlation between their national ICT spend and egovernment performance
  • Time series trend over the years and the degree of variation in egovernment performance between the three categories

Through this report, readers will be able to draw connections between ICT investments and egovernment performance across three different categories of countries.

However, it must be noted that the analysis in this report is not statistical in nature and further investigation and more data are required to perform a thorough correlation analysis.

"This IDC study shows that countries that made the highest investments in ICT (as a % of GDP) over the years have reaped benefits in terms of better egovernment development. As of 2016, the average EGDI for innovators was 28% higher than challengers and 75% higher than followers. However, this gap has narrowed over the years. In 2022, the differential reduced to 14% and almost 50%, respectively," says, Rimal Likhari, research manager, IDC Government Insights.
