Abstract

This IDC study defines and provides a framework for analyzing the installed base of storage capacity, the amount of the installed base of storage capacity that is utilized, and the portion of the installed base that is available for storing data for a given year.

"IDC's Global StorageSphere reflects the installed base of persistent, nonvolatile storage media being used by consumers and enterprises," according to John Rydning, research vice president, Global DataSphere at IDC. "This study provides the definitions and segmentations available that help to expose the dynamics of the ever-changing Global StorageSphere."

"IDC's Global StorageSphere taxonomy provides an in-depth framework for understanding the installed base of storage capacity and the utilization of the capacity each year," adds Adam Wright, research manager, Global DataSphere at IDC.
