Abstract
This IDC study provides details of IDC's Worldwide Internet of Things Spending Guide (IoT SG) taxonomy. This document is to be used as a companion piece for IDC's Worldwide Internet of Things Spending Guide. Technology suppliers may utilize this forecast structure to help them build an industry-focused outlook to pursue Internet of Things market opportunities. The research methodology used to develop the IoT SG is also referenced.
"IDC's Worldwide IoT Spending Guide is released twice annually with the goal to improve forecast quality and accuracy in light of latest market developments," said Marcus Torchia, vice president, Customer Insights and Analysis Group. "In the latest release, updates to the IoT SG use case taxonomy reflect the evolving digital transformation investment objectives of enterprises. Thematically, greater investment in supply chains resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and global reactions, which caused massive business and societal disruptions, are evident in the new use cases. These supply chain–related use cases can be seen in discrete manufacturing, process manufacturing, retail, and transportation industries. In other industries such as resource industries, IoT technology is helping improve upstream supply chain processes in agriculture (e.g., to better produce and deliver food to market)."
