Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight examines the results of an IDC survey conducted in 1Q24 to explore the motivations and criteria for buying used IT equipment. IDC surveyed 1,300+ IT decision-makers in the United States, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Singapore, and the United Kingdom. All respondents must have acquired used IT equipment within the past 18 months and represented a mix of large and enterprise companies.

This IDC Survey Spotlight answers the following question: How important is a sense of shared sustainability aspiration when it comes to IT procurement evaluation of suppliers and partners compared with other criteria?

Shared sustainability aspirations mean transparent communication across the sustainability value chain, from corporate goals and progress to providing sustainability metrics for products and services, ideally wrapped in ROI and business value calculators, sales tools, reporting, and dashboards. This is particularly important as other IDC surveys show that validating vendors' sustainability claims constitutes a key challenge for buyers when assessing the market.
